Assistant Dean Student Affairs
Ms. Claretta McDaniel is the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs at the Howard University School of Divinity. As such, she provides management oversight in the areas of recruitment, admissions, financial aid, and student programming areas of the School of Divinity. In addition, she works closely with the Dean and the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in implementing the Dean's vision for the School.
Prior to coming to Howard, Ms. McDaniel served as the Director of Graduate Student Services at the Kogod School of Business at American University where she was responsible for academic degree program management, academic advising, and student retention. She also worked closely with the Admissions and Student Programming units in recruitment, admissions, new student orientation, and student programming activities. She has served as the Director of Student Support Services (Federal TRIO) program at Montgomery College, as a College Admissions and Retention Advisor at the DC College Access Program, and as an Advanced Academic Counselor at the University of Maryland University College.
Prior to entering a career in higher education, Ms. McDaniel held positions in consulting, information technology, and business process improvement. She earned the M.A. degree in Counseling (Specialization: Student Development in Higher Education) from Trinity University (DC) and the B.A. degree in Psychology and Elementary Education from Washington University in St. Louis.
Ms. McDaniel's goal is to work collaboratively with the School of Divinity community to enhance the student experience. She invites you to share your ideas, time, and talents to do the good work that needs doing.
