Frequently Asked Questions Regarding Admissions to Howard University School of Divinity 

Q. Does the School of Divinity offer online classes?

A. The School of Divinity offers a variety of classes in online (asynchronous and synchronous) and hybrid (blend of intensive classroom and online instruction) format. The DMin degree is non-residential.

Q. I do not have a degree; may I take classes?

A. The School of Divinity offers three degree programs: Master of Divinity, Master of Arts (Religious Studies), and Doctor of Ministry. In addition, we offer two dual degree programs: Master of Divinity/Master of Business Administration and Master of Divinity/Master of Social Work. Interested individuals may also take classes as non-degree students. Non-degree admission requirements are the same as the degree program requirements.  

Q. Does the School of Divinity accept transfer credit?

A. . The School of Divinity accepts transfer credit from accredited graduate theological schools or another accredited graduate institution. The accrediting agency must be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Please contact the School of Divinity Admissions staff for specific information on our Transfer Policy 

Q. Does the School of Divinity have an undergraduate program?

A. The School of Divinity is one of the graduate/professional schools of Howard University and only offers graduate degree programs..

Q. When are classes offered?

A. The majority of classes are offered Monday – Thursday. Some classes are also offered on Fridays and Saturdays. Classes are offered mainly in the evening, but morning and afternoon classes are also offered. Online and hybrid format classes provide flexibility in meeting days and times

Q. Where are classes held?

A. Classes that are held in the classroom, including most hybrid format classes, are held on the Howard University West Campus in Holy Cross Hall located at 2900 Van Ness Street NW, Washington, DC 20008. A few course offerings require off-site meetings (e.g., local churches, D.C. Jail, D.C. historical sites).
