Howard University School of Divinity (HUSD) is one of the oldest fully accredited (1938) theological schools affiliated with the Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada.
Howard University School of Divinity is one of the 14 schools and colleges within Howard University. It is the only African-American theological school connected to a comprehensive category I research institution.
Howard University, a federally chartered, private, doctoral university classified as a high research activity institution, provides an educational experience of exceptional quality at the undergraduate, graduate, and professional levels to students of high academic standing and potential, with particular emphasis upon educational opportunities for Black students. HUSD is located in Washington, DC, the nation's capital. Rich in cultural, scientific, educational, and business resources, the Washington metropolitan area acts as a stimulus to the intellect, the spirit, and the soul. Living in Washington is quite a learning experience.
- School of Divinity students are able to use their theological education to address the needs and concerns of our local community, from neighborhood organizations to Capitol Hill. Students are active participants in the work of local churches of all denominations. Through the Washington Theological Consortium, School of Divinity students are able to explore the interconnections among the many faith communities in the Washington DC metropolitan area.
